Client: Erlebniszentrum Naturgewalten Sylt
Syltdome – Germany’s most northern (360°) cinema
With the construction of the 360° cinema, the “Syltdome”, the Erlebniszentrum Naturgewalten Sylt received a very special highlight. 235 Media took over the conception of interior design, media technology, room acoustics and lighting design as well as the planning of the ventilation technology.
Five 4K projectors with 5000 ANSI lumens each provide the visual experience. The feed server is located in the technical room about 50 meters away from the cinema and the signal feed is latency-free and synchronous. A sophisticated lighting concept provides “Ambient Sound & Light” in coordination with the show control for the waiting time between the shows.
The displacement air principle was used in the ventilation concept. Here, the supply air flows into the floor area, the selectively heated air rises and is extracted. The focus was on smoke extraction, fire protection and escape route planning to ensure compliance with the required safety aspects. In terms of accessibility, two wheelchair spaces were planned, Braille signage and floor covering changes for people with visual impairments were provided.
In order to give the visual 360° film projection an auditory equivalent, 31 loudspeakers and four subwoofers are fed according to the principle of wave field synthesis with the technology of the “Spacial Audop Designer – Processor (SAD-P). This creates the impression of an object-like perception of sound in the room. In order to avoid a disturbing sonication of the surrounding exhibition areas, various sound protection measures were realized.
In addition to the specially produced films for “Kräfte der Nordsee” (Forces of the North Sea), the cinema is also used as a full-dome cinema and event venue outside of opening hours.
