The State Museum of Natural History in Karlsruhe is one of the most important natural history museums in Germany. With its combination of museum exhibits and live animals in large aquariums and terrariums, this museum offers a particularly unique experience. Exotic animals such as crocodiles and sharks can be found here, as well as Germany’s largest living coral reef.
The new permanent exhibition “Form and Function – Inspired by Nature”, which opened on 27th July 2016 in the refurbished West Wing, concentrates on evolution and bionics. Across an exhibition area of 800 m², visitors can discover the techniques developed by animals and plants in order to adapt to the wide range of environmental influences throughout the course of evolution. With a large number of media stations, visitors are taught about what people can learn from nature to upgrade or develop technical devices.
235 MEDIA realised the media productions and IT technology for 21 installations.
CLIENT: Stadt Bad Langensalza
In May 2016, the new exhibition area “Root Cave” was opened in the treetop path in Hainich national park. As a mini-format person, the visitor strolls through the cave-like display, meeting not only creatures of the darkness, but also finding out how the giant trees take on water and other nutrients for growth from the soil, how the “underground world” lives and works, and also which of its important inhabitants are responsible for waste disposal, for example. The elaborately designed display is a varied mixture of interactive elements and models you can hold, as well as instructive explanations. For example, the station “Types of soil and structure”, where the visitor can get more information using an augmented reality application. Or the station “Decomposition of a leaf”, where the visitor can watch the decomposition of a leaf on a time-line, using a slide control.
235 MEDIA produced all the media technology and was deeply involved in the production of the 29 installations.

CLIENT: Stadtverwaltung Düsseldorf
On 22 February, the six new underground stations on the Wehrhahn line were opened in Düsseldorf. This extraordinary project was completed after a 15-year collaboration between architects, artists, engineers and the municipal authority.
The Benrather Straße station was designed by the installation artist Thomas Stricker under the project name “Heaven above, heaven below” (German: Himmel oben, Himmel unten). The entire intermediate level, which is around 70 x 15 m, replicates the inside of a spaceship. Six large video screens were built into the metal walls, showing planets of our solar system and stars in the Milky Way. Together, the six animations form a complete film which is displayed on the six screens in such a way as to give the impression of travelling through space; thus creating the illusion that the entire station is flying through space. The installation brings the heavens to the earth, swaps up for down and transforms heavy to light. The vastness of the universe is transferred to the confines of the underground. The architecture appears mobile, like a spaceship moving through the infinite expanse of space.
235 MEDIA designed the media technology and installed the feed technology, as well as devising the animations in cooperation with Thomas Stricker.

CLIENT: Zivilisation der Liebe GbR

With the theme “Wisdom and Goodness”, the 11th Ambient festival – Civilisation of Love took place in the Basilica of the Holy Apostles in Cologne in January 2016. Over three evenings, a range of artists from the ambient scene took visitors on a journey into the very special world of sound in the ambient, classical, electronic and experimental style.
As in the past, this year 235 MEDIA once more developed room-filling video compositions, which played in keeping with the sounds and rhythms in the whole space of the church, using centrally-controlled video projectors, in order to support the artists visually.
CLIENT: German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy
2014 til 2015
On behalf of the “German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy”, 235 MEDIA has designed and implemented a variety of animations and interactive applications within the framework of 14 overseas trade fairs addressing all aspects of “renewable energies”. The aim is to present Germany on the international stage in connection with progressive ideas and innovative products in the field of renewable energies and energy efficiency.
In close coordination with the “Energy Efficiency”, “Renewable Energies” and “Energy Transition” export initiatives, the work has produced, among other things, a 3D animation of a model energy-efficient house, an optimum energy landscape with smart-grid systems, and a 360° projection. All of the applications were produced in a multilingual format comprising seven languages. Here, the focus lies on communicating complex contexts and technologies to trade-fair visitors from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds in a short reception time.
235 MEDIA carried out the conception, graphic design, programming and sound design.
CLIENT: Ratingen City Museum
The history of the city of Ratingen is shown on a large-scale interactive map table.
The aim is to communicate the historic development of the city of Ratingen to the visitor, from earliest times to the present day. This is based on the wide range of maps of the city of Ratingen, which show the size and development of the city over the ages. Hotspots on the maps locate the relevant subjects and buildings for a period. Activating a hotspot allows the user to find information using texts, images and videos. One highlight is the animated 3D tour through the city to show the current appearance of the city.
CLIENT: Energy, Learning and Discovery Centre Aurich
The “Energie Zukunft” exhibition is a new subdivision of the Energy, Learning and Discovery Centre in Aurich. Visitors can explore scientific phenomena by playing with interactive exhibits in seven themed areas – Energy Experience, Sun, Wind, Water, Power Plant Earth and Classic Energy Concepts. This includes, for example, an energy game in which visitors test their newly acquired knowledge by designing their own energy system.
235 MEDIA realized the media technology for numerous interactive exhibits, installed a server and network technology, and oversaw the network configurations.

Nine museums in eight cities on the Rhine and Ruhr have joined forces to present contemporary art from China in the most extensive exhibition Europe has ever known in its museums. Around 120 artists and 500 works of painting, photography, calligraphy, ink painting, sculpture, installation and video art represent a cross-section of the current artistic positions and trends in the world’s largest economy.
Featuring 25 video and sound installations, the “Glaskasten” sculpture museum in Marl makes up the setting for the main media art venue. One of the technical highlights of “CHINA 8” is to be found at the “NRW-Forum” in Dusseldorf in the form of “Related to YA”, an installation by Wang Gongxin: the visitor is visually and acoustically catapulted into a world full of vibrations, shocks, clacking sounds and twitching pictures on nine synchronised vertical projections that reflect the hustle and the bustle of everyday life in China.
235 MEDIA completed the entire media-technology set-up in a mere ten days for 44 video installations at eight venues. A total of 92 monitors, ranging from 19 to 75 inches diagonal, along with 31 projectors and 112 media players were mounted, installed or set-up, all connected by several kilometres of cable, which proved to be a major logistical challenge.

The Wallraf-Richartz-Museum is the first European museum to showcase the spectacular video installation “Hearsay of the Soul” as part of the special exhibition entitled “Werner Herzog & Hercules Segers: Landscapes of the Soul”.
In this piece of work, the great German director Werner Herzog, who has lived in the USA since 1995, reflects his aesthetic relationship with the mysterious landscapes of the Dutch Baroque painter Hercules Segers (1590-1638), who, with his experimental etchings, still counts as one of the most original and influential artists of the Golden Age, although he failed to win the attention of a wider public, having being forced into the shadows by Rembrandt.
Herzog, who often creates ecstatic landscapes in his films, has taken off on an idiosyncratic journey into the visionary graphic work of Segers with his video installation, which had already caused a sensation earlier at the 2012 Whitney Biennial in New York.
235 MEDIA provided technical consultation, and was also responsible for planning and producing the installation at the exhibition in Cologne.

The Ambient Festival took place in year 2015 in St Apostle’s church under the theme IMPERFECTIO ET MISERICORDIA (imperfection and compassion in Latin). Under this heading, the Ambient Festival, now in its tenth year, quite consciously attempted to develop the theme of courage to improvise and experiment, as opposed to perfection.
For each of the ten musicians and bands at the Ambient Festival, 235 MEDIA developed room-filling video compositions, which played to match the sounds and rhythms of the entire church space, using 2-5 centrally controlled video projectors.
CLIENT: Stadt Altena
In the middle of the pedestrian zone in Altena there is an architectural highlight which was awarded the German Design Award for exhibition design and architecture this year. Visitors can now reach the entrance to Altena Castle – which lies 80 metres above the city – via a lift which is at the end of a 90-metre adventure tunnel. Thanks to state-of-the-art media technology installations, visitors can now experience a journey through the legends of South Westphalia, learning first-hand about its history and the importance of the Altena Castle for the region.

CLIENT: Art and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany
At the threshold of science and art, the exhibition around the theme of outer space showed a range of exhibits from the areas of research, technology, history, art and literature. The curators deployed a poetic panorama of artefacts from space and astronomy, documentary material, movies, comics, space design, artistic works and multimedia installations which covered the enormous spectrum of the topic which has fascinated humanity for thousands of years and which has lost none of its appeal.
Reminiscent of the legendary cockpit of the spaceship Orion, one of the 60`s German TV series “Raumpatrouille“, whose controls had been created in part from re-purposed household appliances, 235 MEDIA realised the installation “Countdown minus 10” for the exhibition in the form of a “media cockpit”, an interactive table with a wall projection where visitors could take a flight through the history of space travel. Spread over five main themes, 235 MEDIA produced a total of 19 comprehensive animations which included surprising facts, images and films.
The installation “Countdown minus 10” was designed, created, editorially overseen, programmed and technically realised by 235 MEDIA.

The interactive table developed by 235 MEDIA ®evolution is an ideal medium for explaining complex topics to larger groups of visitors. The surface of the table works like an oversized touchscreen, with the desired information projected directly onto the table from above. The basic application on the interactive table is a menu selection system, which can be individually adapted to each new project. It can also be expanded by including games, videos and camera transmissions, or be used to control lighting, sound and video projections elsewhere in the room. Hence, the interactive table is a highly sophisticated system suited for presentation, entertainment and communication purposes.
CLIENT: Roman-Germanic Museum, Cologne
Once the Roman province of Germania Inferior was connected to Rome and the remaining parts of the Roman Empire by a network of roads of more than 100,000 kilometres. If you are interested in exploring these old Roman roads in the Rhineland by foot or with the bicycle, you will enjoy the “Erlebnisraum Römerstraßen” [Adventure Sphere Roman Roads] project.
A total of 18 municipalities are cooperating with one another to make this historic road come alive again.
235 MEDIA is implementing a total of 15 predominantly interactive media stations. Among other things, one of the main installations was the media slider in the Roman-Germanic Museum in Cologne. Over a distance of four metres, a touch-monitor is mechanically moved over a graphic by the visitors. At different positions an interaction is possible, which offers the visitor in-depth information.

CLIENT: ENERGETICON gGmbH
In the converted buildings of the former “Grube Anna” coal mine the ENERGETICON adventure museum opened its doors in August 2014 in Alsdorf with four large-scale permanent exhibition areas: “The History of Sun and Earth”, “The History of the Fossil Industrial Age”, “Energy Transition” and “The History of the Regenerative Industrial Age”. In a vivid manner ENERGETICON explains to its visitors the necessary energy transition from the nuclear/fossil age to the age of renewable energy in a global context. The 700-meter arena with about 30 stages focusses on strong visual and haptic forms in the presentation of the complex subject of energy.
235 MEDIA has realized a total of 17 partly multi-part and interactive media installations. The range of services covered by 235 MEDIA included production management, concept and storyboard creation, editing and adaptation of scientific content, wireframing, development of the look and feel, usability engineering, creation of animations and movies, audio production including directing of the voice recordings and multi-channel sound design, as well as the entire post production process.
For a special thrill, 235 MEDIA realized a 3D animation for ceiling monitors and a Body-Shake-System in an elevator which creates the illusion of a mine ride at a depth of hundreds of meters even though the real journey in fact is just a few meters. The coal mine being accessible in this way was equipped with audio and video productions by 235 MEDIA and gives a vivid impression of the everyday work of a miner.

CLIENT: West Prussian State Museum
In an exhibition space covering 900 m2, the West Prussian State Museum (Westpreußisches Landesmuseum) presents the cultural history of the former German area in the lower reaches of the Vistula River. Since December 2014, this museum has been housed in a former Franciscan monastery at the edge of the historic centre of Warendorf in the Münsterland region. More than 20 rooms of the former Franciscan monastery in Warendorf were purpose-equipped with a contemporary design and the latest media technology.
235 MEDIA realised several installations, some of which are interactive, as well as building an infoslider in front of an amber display case.

CLIENT: Stadt Aachen
The city of Aachen recently commemorated the 1200th anniversary of the death of Charlemagne by hosting a three-part exhibition dedicated to the ruler of the Frankish Empire. The trio of exhibitions held under the title of “Karl der Große. Macht Kunst Schätze” (‘Charlemagne. Power, Art and Treasures’) was also accompanied by the presentation of the city’s new museum, the “Centre Charlemagne”, to visitors.
The new museum uses four epochs to demonstrate to visitors how the history of the city of Aachen is inseparably linked to the history of Europe as a whole.
Its exhibition is divided up into four parts, each focusing on a different epoch and combining historic and artistic exhibits with multimedia presentations.
235 MEDIA was involved in the concept development and exhibition planning for the museum and was responsible for the implementation of the media planning, the detailed planning of all media installations and the screen design.

CLIENT: Stadt Aachen
The largest special exhibition focusing on Charlemagne in Aachen was held in the Coronation Hall in Aachen City Hall. It invited visitors to explore courtly life in Carolingian times, showed Charlemagne as a king and military leader travelling between imperial palaces, used archaeological and art-historical evidence to outline the material foundations of his rule and provided an insight into the external role models that motivated him to create a ‘place of power’ in Aachen.
The media presentations not only provided visitors with in-depth factual information, but also enabled them to experience elements of popular science by offering different depths of information ranging from striking demonstrations through to a variety of educationally oriented informative displays depending on the topic in question.
In order to make the exhibition as attractive as possible, these were additionally joined by four complex media installations. Upon entering the hall, visitors were first greeted by an elaborate 3D visualisation of the shrine of Charlemagne in Aachen Cathedral in order to acclimatise them to the atmosphere of the exhibition. In the middle of the exhibition, a video panorama with a diameter of 5.50m presented life in the Palace of Aachen.
At the end of their tour of the exhibition, visitors were able to view two interactive large-format installations that focused on the nature of the phenomenon of power in the present day and gave visitors the opportunity to actively participate in this discussion.
235 MEDIA was involved in the concept development and detailed planning of the exhibition and was responsible for the technical planning, media planning, and screen design of every interactive media installation.

CLIENT: Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Foundation
The Mendelssohn House in the German city of Leipzig reopened on 3rd February 2014. The exhibition informs visitors about the life and works of the musician and composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, who lived and worked in Leipzig for many years.
The museum offers a variety of interactive exhibits that enable visitors to explore the works of Mendelssohn Bartholdy. One of its outstanding highlights is the interactive room installation “Effectorium”.
In the “Effectorium,” visitors can use a baton, the Leap Motion technology and a touchscreen to ‘conduct’ a digital orchestra. The Leap Motion Controller records their movement and uses their actions to control the music. The ‘conductors’ can also influence different factors such as volume for both the entire orchestra and individual orchestra or choir groups. They can also control the lighting of the room, with the LED lighting changing its colour and intensity according to their movements.

The exhibition “Made in Oceania: Tapa – Art and Social Landscapes” presents unique works of art from the museum’s collection together with many loan pieces that have never been displayed in Europe before.
235 MEDIA designed and realised all of the media installations, including an interactive photo installation with a historic camera, allowing visitors to photograph themselves in original Melanesian clothing.
In addition to this, numerous videos and five interactive info stations were also created. A video-mapping installation on the exhibition’s key visual rounds off the media concept.

Bright red. Gigantic. Impossible to miss – MÜLHEIM 2020 makes a very clear statement in the middle of Wiener Platz in Cologne-Mühlheim.
The lord mayor of Cologne, Jürgen Roters, unveiled the two meter tall and six and a half meter wide sculpture on Wiener Platz in Cologne-Mühlheim. With this the structural development program MÜLHEIM 2020 went into its second phase.
235 MEDIA took over the technical construction and production as well as the logistics and assembly of the installation.
CLIENT: Cologne Institute for Economic Research
For the presentation of the new info truck of the Cologne Institute for Economic Research (IW) 235 MEDIA produced an approx. five minute animation film.
The animation starts with an exterior view of the truck in a fictitious landscape and then goes on a tour from the lower to the upper level inside the truck. In total ten trucks will be built by IW Media which on their nationwide tours will inform students, parents, and teacher about education opportunities and professions in the metal and electrical industry. For this purpose there are various information and experimental stations on two levels, which are reproduced in the animation film.
As well as the creation of the script and production of the animation 235 MEDIA also conceptualised and realised the sound design and speech recordings with explanatory information.

CLIENT: LVR – Archaeological Park Xanten
September 2012 til May 2013
With 630,000 visitors in 2011, the LVR – Archaeological Park Xanten (LVR-APX) is one of the most-visited museums in Germany and, at the same time, one of the most important archaeological monuments in Europe. The new “Bread and Games” visitor experience, installed in the north ambulatory of the partially reconstructed amphitheatre and the three adjoining rooms (“Carcer IV–VI”), provides visitors with information on the topic of “Gladiators” in an authentic setting.
235 MEDIA installed doors with video players and audio systems with an auto-loop function in the outdoor area of the arena ambulatory. An interactive animation of a bear is installed in “Carcer V”. If visitors approach the bear’s cage, the bear rushes to the bars, stands up and growls at the visitors. If the visitors stay longer, the bear hits the bars with its paw and roars again. The interaction is based on sensor technology and Arduino programming, and the image is rear-projected.
All of the equipment is built into air-conditioned housings with self-regulating heating and ventilation in order to protect the technology from the effects of weather.
235 MEDIA planned and realised all of the installations.
CLIENT: Kunstmuseum Bonn
The video lounge in the Kunstmuseum Bonn, which makes the video archive accessible for individual use by visitors, has been modernised and expanded. 235 MEDIA developed a new user interface that makes a database search possible as well as the playing of films. For the video search via a touchscreen monitor the visitor can use either a list view of the works according to artist, title and year of origin or a full text search.
All video works were digitalised and converted by 235 MEDIA, and the associated metadata from the print catalogue was digitally recorded. The video data and content information were integrated into a specially conceived content management system that is now permanently available to the Kunstmuseum for the independent recording of new video art works.
As well as conception, design development and programming, 235 MEDIA also undertook the conception of media technology to ensure the smooth integration of the archive in the walk-through installation of Stefan Eberstad which contains the video lounge.
CLIENT: Kultur- und Stadthistorisches Museum Duisburg
Duisburg’s Museum of Culture and Local History greets visitors in the newly designed “Mercator treasure room”, and takes them on a voyage of discovery on the trail of cartographer Gerhard Mercator, creator of the world’s first atlas in the 16th century. With the cartography technique he invented, the Mercator projection, he laid the foundation for modern cartography. Even today captains and pilots navigate with maps which are created based on this principle. A variety of media installations ensure modern and fun communication of the facts of Mercator’s life and work.
235 MEDIA designed, developed graphically, programmed and realised two interactive media installations for the Mercator treasure room. The monitor installation “Red Wall” gives information about the intellectual conditions and cultural-historical background of the Renaissance, the era of Mercator. The “Interactive World Atlas” gives visitors the possibility of browsing through Mercator’s magnum opus, the “Atlas sive Cosmograhicae Meditationes de Fabrica Mundi et Fabricati Figura” (“Atlas or cosmographic mediations on the creation of the world and the form of creation”), and to examine it closely via a zoom function.
As well as this, 235 MEDIA installed all the media and control technology in the Mercator treasure room.
CLIENT: German Federal Office of Economics and Export Control

Within the framework of the Renewable Energies/Energy Efficiency Export Initiatives, the Federal Republic of Germany is participating in a total of 10 trade fairs with a joint stand in 2013. Part of the corporate design is an interactive media table and a 360° projection that is used to support the communication goals. In addition, these exhibits act as design elements and help the stand to achieve a long-range effect.
The media table realised by 235 MEDIA consists of a circular projection table with a diameter of 100 cm, a projection cylinder with a 500 cm diameter mounted above the table, and the corresponding control units. The multi-touch surfaces allow visitors to learn interactively about the focal topics of the Renewable Energies/Energy Efficiency Export Initiatives. Different imagery is generated on the projection cylinder depending on the accessed content, providing changing atmospheric moods at the trade-fair stand.
The rear projection is complemented by a multi-touch function with an IR camera detection system, an IR laser matrix and a HD camera. The 360° projection is realised with six projectors on a rear-projection screen and steered by a Watch Out system.

The “Inside the Station” exhibition takes visitors on an expedition to the South Pole! The destination is the “Princess Elisabeth Antarctica” polar research station.
235 MEDIA was responsible for supervising and implementing the concept of the whole media production of the exhibition, which covers 700 m2. This includes an interactive media table located in the technology room, the centre of the exhibition. At this multi-touch table, visitors can enjoy the experience of playing with the complex system of the zero-emission polar base. Seven more external monitors are integrated into this room environment and display the respective energy levels of electricity consumption and production.
In addition, 235 MEDIA has implemented an interactive telescope with which visitors can learn more about the polar station. The video editing, subtitles, and sound design of the various exhibition rooms complete the immersion in the media environment, which enables visitors to be transported to Antarctica or to the kitchen in the polar station.
All the media equipment was delivered and installed by 235 MEDIA.

The InfoSlider is the perfect medium for presentations aimed at providing detailed information after establishing a general impression. It consists of a monitor mounted in front of a large illuminated display on which individual information can be printed. Visitors can slide the monitor back and forth on the x- and the y-axis, and at predefined positions it will display additional information in the form of films, photos and texts. In the version equipped with a touchscreen monitor, the InfoSlider also allows for direct access to the Internet. This enables visitors to independently research complex topics in a playful manner.
The Gesture Control measures with the help of infrared tracking photo points of moving persons, objects, or parts of the body. A multitouch controller is extended to the 3rd dimension and transfers the system into a stable gesture tracking system. This offers a wide variety of new programmable logic controller of interactive systems. Further more the Gesture Control can be combined with other sensor technology like single touch or radar sensors which offers far more possibilities for the interaction design.
Client: Museum RELíGIO
The new RELíGIO museum in Telgte is dedicated not only to religious themes of local importance, but also to thwider context of human spiritual belief throughout history and in the present day. This includes everyday rituals, belief systems and religious diversity in the modern world. The museum addresses all those who are interested in religious questions.
A particular highlight is the new presentation of the historically significant Hunger Cloth of Telgte, in a specially created room. 235 MEDIA was responsible for the multimedia technology, the interactive graphics, the programming and the film editing. Furthermore, we were involved in developing the editorial content for certain topics.

We are looking back on a successful EXPONATEC 2011, the international trade fair for museums, conservation and cultural heritage.
As in the last four years 235 MEDIA presented scenography concepts, specialized interactive solutions, and multimedia exhibits. We had many interesting conversations, and we are looking forward to new and exciting projects.
The following innovations were introduced at the EXPONATEC 2011:
The 3D Sensor is able to detect the exact coordinates of moving persons, objects, or parts of the user’s body by tracking infrared photo points. Now we are able to add the third dimension to a multi-touch controller and thus to transform the system into a gesture tracking system. A wide range of new controls of interactive applications is conceivable by this new technology. We are also able to link the system to other sensor technologies like single touch, or radar sensors to extend the possibilities for interaction design even more. Interactive network media database
A unique software system which consists of a combination of media database, web-based Content Management System and an interactive application. Complex interactive applications on client computers dispersed all over the world in as many language as wished can be controlled easily, which helps to achieve a high degree of sustainability for your content management and presentations.
Fly ButterFly – interactive wall projection
Butterflies, flowers, leafs are dancing and floating to the rhythm of the music. Fly ButterFly is an interactive installation, which generates motifs according to the music you are listening to. You can create your own program by selecting images out of the library and by controlling speed, behaviour or size of the desired objects. Fly ButterFly can be customized for any architectural situation by using one to eight projectors, or a 360-degree-panorama.

235 Media developed and implemented the entire media technology and an interactive table featuring a 3D Depth Sensor for gesture control for the “Our Daily Bread“ exhibit.
The visitors can interactively take a meal from a conveyor belt at the table and gather information with regard to water consumption, CO2-emmission, price and caloric expenditure for diverse food items. A table with 4 empty plates is on display. A conveyor belt with trays containing diverse food items, from which the visitors can extract one by hand gesture runs through the centre of the table. Information regarding the water consumption, CO2-emmission, price and caloric expenditure for diverse food items can be obtained for each individually assembled plate. Each piece of information is incited in an interactive and entertaining manner.

CLIENT: DEUTSCHES BERGBAU-MUSEUM
Mining and transport of saltpetre and other raw materials throughout the past centuries are the topic of a multimedia installation developed by 235 MEDIA. In a 360-degree roundel suspended from the ceiling nine monitors have been fixed as a panorama. They synchronously show a film collage flowing over the borders of the monitors. The collage, composed of photographs and films and accentuated by a sound design, tells the exciting story of the important raw materials.
CUSTOMER: Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Wasserverbände in NRW
For the trade fair appearance by the North Rhine-Westphalian Water Authorities Association – agw – at the Wasser 2011 in Berlin, 235 MEDIA created an interactive table.
The objective was to bring visitors closer to the many and varied tasks and questions affecting matters relating to water, the use and consumption of waste water and to underline the Association’s public responsibility. At the interactive table visitors were able to learn more based on texts and pictures which could be chosen by means of a suitably designed interface. As an entertaining and much used extra attraction, a memory game was integrated into the table where people were able to follow the number of moves in the game.

To mark the 150th anniversary of trade relations between Japan and Germany, the exhibition “150 years as Economic Partners” took place in the NRW Forum Düsseldorf and in the Representation of the State of NRW in Berlin. The exhibition provided information about the economic relations between the two countrieswitha survey of the past, present and future. Here visitors were led through a veritable forest of info panels to our interactive table where they were able to discover by themselves a multitude of information on the German-Japanese economic partnership. Another outstanding feature were some 50 items on display, from old drawings from Japan, by way of a soy sauce barrel from the 19th century right up to the super-lightweight HAL® robot suit by the CYBERDYNE company. 235 MEDIA planned, developed and implemented the scenographic concept for the exhibition, the interactive table, the exhibition panels and the presentation of the exhibits.

235 MEDIA implemented a 4-D cinema and the ECOPIA-tyre-test bicycle for BRIDGESTONE, Europe. The 81st International Automobile-Saloon in Geneva (03/03 – 03/13/2011) was the first official location. Bridgestone 4-D Cinema
The 4-D Cinema is inviting tradeshow visitors to review three Bridgestone tyres. You are able to select a 3-D movie for each of these tyres. The sound is provided by high-performance surround sound equipment. When the car starts, built in fans are blowing an airstream into the visitor’s face. If the vehicle brakes abruptly, the seat is raised by pneumatic equipment, allowing the visitors to experience the break function. If the animated vehicle begins slipping and swerving, the entire seat vibrates. If the tyre blows out after driving over a nail, the spectator will experience a slight bumping sensation on the seat. If the journey continues through ice and snow, the passengers will feel frigid air and if the tyre overheats due to too much rolling resistance, hot air is dispensed. The interaction of these functions transforms these films into a (almost) true 4-D experience.
Technology: 65” Panasonic 3-D monitor, Panasonic shutter-glasses, 2.1 surround sound. Additional features: Pneumatics, vibration engines, high-performance axial fans, cold- and climate technology, SPS-control system.
In this adventure exhibit, a regular commercial pneumatic tyre is installed on one side and a Bridgestone ECOPIA-low friction tyre on the other side. During the ECOPIA tyre-test the spectators can sit in a comfortable sportsseat and experience the difference between the tyres. Although the tyres have identical measurements, the differences between the two tyres regarding rolling resistance and road noise can be distinguished.

The goal was to develop modular and reusable exhibition architecture for the museum created by Richard Meier. The art bulletin (1-2/10011 edition, page 56), reports on the results: “The fantastic spatial effect of Richard Meier’s museum construction project is used effectively to establish surprising perspectives and visions by alternating between intimate built-ins and open views.” Selected small sculptures have been effectively placed in an open view with three sequential lighting conditions: “Sophisticated lighting effects provide an additional subjectivity of the view: The versatility of Arp’s artistic base element has been effectively staged.” (Art bulletin, see above)
Security sensors, developed by 235 MEDIA as well, enable the open positioning of exhibits on large wall pedestals.

CLIENT: DB MUSEUM
Until the 27th February 2011 the DB Museum celebrated 175 years of railway in Germany with its special exhibition “Planet Railway”. For this exhibition several multimedia interactive installations were realised by 235 MEDIA. Using intuitive movements the visitors can turn a seemingly three-dimensional globe and in doing so learn interesting information about the development of the railway system. The radar-touch used here allows for a multi-touch interaction without actually contact. On an eight meter half-round wall, pictures of the future railway assemble to futuristic sounds from particles floating in from the room. The visitors are able to choose pictures from the double projection via a capacititive sensor system and receive further information. The Railomate, a 42“-touch screen with camera, the visitors can virtually choose between different railway caps and put them on. The result can be sent home via e-mail as a greeting.
An interactive table demonstrates to the visitor that the railway was a driving factor for the introduction of a common time zone in the German Empire. An animated map of around 1880, with sound design and speech, first shows how the railway net expanded and more and more trains ran. Eight realistic church spire models show different times. On the sound off a bell the clocks synchronise and the trains drive smoothly throughout the whole empire.

On the occasion of the trade expo K2010, an Interactive Product Portfolio was developed for Bayer Material Science. A total of 20 interactive interfaces allow for an intuitive access to over 80 product stories. A strict structure for interaction and a clearly designed interface make of easy access and orientation within the stories. An ambient modus visualises the five theme areas by generating the actual data structure as a 3D-room. This “data room” loads the stories into the interface. The core of the application is the central data bank with all contents which are administered via a web based Content Management System (CMS).
